My parents finally got their mission call on February 18th. They are going to serve 18 months in the Spain Madrid Las Palmas (Canary Islands) Mission. So far they have been told they will be working with seminary teachers and the institute program. They are supposed to report to the Missionary Training Center on August 8th.
When they opened their call we had every single member of my family on the phone. It was such a neat experience! I was covered in goose bumps as they read their call issued from the prophet of our church, President Thomas S. Monson. We are so happy my parents have chosen to serve a mission!!! I'd be lying if I said I wasn't going to be sad that they will be gone for 18 months, but at least we can still skype!
Brett and I totally plan on going out to visit them. Brett served his mission in Spain Madrid so it will be awesome to go and see where he lived and served for 2 years and then head over to the beautiful Canary Islands.
We love you mom and dad and know our family will be blessed because of your decision to serve the Lord!

That is so great! They are going to be a wonderful blessing to the people in Spain. Will they be speaking spanish on their mission?
Wow! I am so excited for them. What fabulous experiences await them! :)
Yay! That's awesome! So fun for you to get to go back to Brett's mission too!
How exciting for all of you! My grandparents served in Spain when I was in elementary school.
It's so cool that Brett served over there too... I hope you guys get to go visit! (One day Rich and I will make it to Russia to see his mission!)
Please send my love and congratulations from me. I'm thrilled for them. What a great example for all the grandkids.
My grandparents have served in that exact mission twice! The first time is was called the Las Palmas CES mission (200) and the second it was called this (2008). The reason they went twice is because they loved it so much the first time they requested it the second. I hope your parents love it too!
Working in institute in the canary islands. . . Sounds like it's going to be more of a vacation than a mission!! I'd love to go on a mission some day to do that. I wish you could pick. So awesome for your parents! I'm happy for them!
I think that is thrilling! What a great place for your parents. And they'll be so good at seminary and institute. They are going to be awesome missionaries. Spain is so lucky.
so great!! your mom and dad will be awesome missionaries!! and we skype Bryan's parents all the time. It'll be a great example for your kids for their grandparents to serve!
How exciting. My old roommate served in the Canary Islands. Nice that you have Skype...things have certainly changed as far as communication with missionaries. I'm sure you'll miss them but what a wonderful experience. And...you get to go on a nice vacation because of it, too!
