My Dad - My Hero

I'd pretty much be checked into a nut house by now if it weren't for my dad! Five weeks-going on six-without a husband, is almost unbearable. This week has been VERY LONG! I thought last week with a week and a half of strep was bad. This week Kirra decided she doesn't like sleeping during the day and wants to be held all day long, making Tavin extremely jealous and crying to be held, all day long.

Nut house avoided because, not only has my dad stood many countless hours holding Kirra, played day after day with Tavin outside and let him work along side him doing yard work, been covered in a massive poop explosion from Kirra, laughed off the constant pestering at the door everytime he uses the bathroom, on and on and on....Yesterday morning my dad told Tavin they were going to go out to run some errands together. My dad is always really helpful, but usually I accompany him on outings with Tav-man...you never know when he's going to have a melt down or need a diaper change. My dad said to just pack him a diaper and then they were off (Literally peeling out in the driveway. A guy bonding thing I'm sure.)...to who knows where, to give me some free time, or atleast some alone time with Kirra. It was just the break I needed! It really is hard to put into words how much I love my dad. Then, to top it off, to know that he is so aware (of my sanity) means the world to me. Let's be honest, my dad should be losing it at this point as well. He has endured a year of the Jones family in his home-never a quiet moment or any privacy-never a complaint. Without any hesitation he took my son out for some quality time with "Papa." PRICELESS!

A couple hours later they returned home. Tavin, asleep in Papa's arms, was now wearing different shoes than those he left with. I've been trying to get him some winter shoes, but he HATES putting new shoes on. He is very attached to his flip flops. Papa didn't have any problems getting him to try on shoes and well, now, he HATES taking off his cool new shoes from Papa.

After I went and put Tavin down in bed I came back down stairs and couldn't thank my dad enough. He told me he had a couple more things for Tavin in the bag on the table. I pulled out the cutest hoodie with matching shoes and jeans. My dad said that with winter coming on he knew he would be in need of these things. I LOVED it cause I could totally see my dad sporting the hoodie. It's so his style, which I must say is awesome! I was shocked he got the right size and everything. He admitted he might have had a little help. :) So Tav-man and Papa went to the mall and did a little shopping. Hand in hand, they stopped pretty frequently when Tavin got distracted by the window displays in front of stores like Build-a-Bear and Disney. Can't you just picture it? Too cute. Of course they enjoyed a little ice cream too. To make the trip complete they stopped at a golf store so Papa could get some new grips. I guess Tavin was in heaven. The workers got him his own little club to put around with. Papa just couldn't resist. He'd like someone to put around with in the backyard.

(Don't mind the bear hanging out of his bumb. Papa tucked it in his shorts and now thinks it's so fun cruising around with it.)

Kirra and I really enjoyed our time together!!!

THANK YOU is not powerful enough to express the gratitude I owe my dad-my hero!

Melissa, your Dad must be a super Grandpaw. I know Tavin is in heaven when they are together. Cherish the moments. He did a great job shopping (for a man. lol) Tavin looks really great in his new clothes and shoes according to the pictures.

Melissa, I missed the pictures when I wrote the other message. Your Dad LOOKS SO YOUNG. Don't tell him but I would almost aver he was "Steve Spurrier", the former coach of Tennessee's arch-rival, Florida. UGHHHH Spurrier beat TN so many times. Funny though, he retired from FL when Coach Fulmer (of TN) beat him one year. hahahahahahaha Well, going back to the blog and wonderful pictures. Thank you so much for including me in your email. I feel closer to all of you through your blog. (GrandPapaw does too).

Melissa, you have a wonderful dad! Glad he and Tavin have so much fun together....and that he can get him to wear his "winter" shoes.

I love the smiles on Kirra's face. Thanks for all the pictures! We love you all....and Brett will be home soon!

Your dad is great! I hope my dad does that if Pete is ever gone for that long : ) 6 weeks sounds like an eternity alone with 2 kids! And I thought a few days without Pete was along time. I'm glad you're near the end. Kirra and Tavin are such cute kids. I love Tavin's blue eyes.

I'm glad you got a much needed break and it looks like Tavin will be sporting a cool new outfit. I can totally empathize with the single parent thing. Tim is finishing up his Masters in May, but it's been a rough road without him around. I wish my parents were close by to help me with my sanity. :)
